Hambleton Bakery wins ITVs Best Bakery Award

If you leave Cottesmore down the little country lane winding towards Exton, you would be forgiven for driving past a small one storey stone building in the woods, set back from the road.  It may look unremarkable but is home to Rutland’s very own award winning traditional bakery.  Hambleton Bakery makes traditional artisan bread, cakes and other treats.

The Bakery was opened in September 2008 by Julian Carter and Tim Hart.  Mr Hart is the owner of Michelin Starred Hambleton Hall Hotel and Restaurant, and also Harts Hotel and Restaurant in Nottingham.  The business has built up many local wholesale customers, and also retail outlets at the Bakery itself in Exton and shops in Stamford and Oakham.

Building on this success the Bakery has gone on to take part in, and win, ITVs show, Britain’s Best Bakery. Congratulations are due to everyone involved!

The Exton Bakery and shop is less than a 5 minute drive from The Tithe Barn and is well worth a visit. Upon entering the shop you are assailed by delicious smells, and if you poke your head into the kitchen door (which is always open) you can see all the Bakers hard at work, and the huge wood burning ovens they use to bake their delicious bread!
